The 14th annual Fines Creek Bluegrass Jam will take place Friday, Aug. 26th, and Saturday, Aug. 27th, in the field behind the old Fines Creek School on Fines Creek Road, just off I-40 at exit 15. The Fines Creek Community Association sponsors the event each year to raise money for its scholarship fund. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $10 for ages 16-18. Prices for both nights are $25 for adults and $15 for ages 16-18. Children under 16 will be admitted free with a paying adult. Parking is free. Refreshments will be available. Event organizers have planned an exciting lineup for both eveningís performances. Starting Friday at 5 p.m., and ending at midnight, Steve Brown and Hurricane Ridge will open the festivities. Brown will also serve as master of ceremonies. Raymond Fairchild will be featured next followed by The Troubadours, Hazel Creek and the Marcus Ireland Band. Dance groups appearing Friday night will be the Dixie Darling Cloggers and the Southern Mountain Fire Cloggers.
The Saturday lineup will begin an hour earlier at 4 p.m., ending at midnight. Steve Brown and Hurricane Ridge will again lead the musical revue followed by Balsam Range, Carol Rifkin and Paulís Creek, the Hominy Valley Boys and the Marcus Ireland Band. Appearances by the Fines Creek Flatfooters and the Appalachian Cloggers will round out the eveningís entertainment.
The Bluegrass Jam will be held rain or shine. In case of rain, large canopy tents will provide cover for the audience. Those who plan to attend are asked to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. A limited number of chairs will be available for rent Food and drinks will be sold on the school grounds.
A wholesome family event, the Bluegrass Jam brings music and local culture together for the purpose of supporting the education of youth. Proceeds benefit a college scholarship fund for local students. The Bluegrass Jam takes place the weekend before Labor Day each year.
